California Hit by 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake

Two Dead, Injuries Reported

Quake Impacts Eureka Area

A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern California's Eureka area early Tuesday morning, leaving at least two people dead and causing widespread damage. The quake, which occurred around 2:34 AM local time, was centered about 11 miles west-southwest of Eureka and had a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt across a wide area of Northern California, from Sacramento to Crescent City. It caused power outages, damaged buildings, and triggered mudslides in some areas. Emergency crews are currently responding to the damage and assisting residents.

The California Geological Survey reports that the earthquake was the largest to hit the Eureka area since 1992. The agency is urging residents to remain prepared for aftershocks, which could continue for days or weeks.

The earthquake is the latest in a series of seismic events that have hit Northern California in recent months. In September, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Bay Area, causing minor damage. In August, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Eureka area, with no reported damage.
